Understanding the relationship between the history of rhetorical practices and the present implications of rhetorical factors is an important ability. This assignment asked me to apply the knowledge I have learned from the famous rhetors of the past and apply it to the controversial events that exist in todays society.  I decided to discuss the controversy that has surrounded Colin Kaepernick's decision to kneel during the National Anthem at the superbowl. I chose to focus on emulating a Rogerian format of rhetoric. In this way I sought to find a common ground between both sides of the controversy before using persuasion techniques to convince others of the fallacy of their views.
