In writing about past events, time becomes a funny thing. This assignment required me to experiment with the way I presented time in my writing. In this piece I detail a ski day. At first I documented the day in chronological order and then later reordered the events of the day in a less sequential format. I enjoyed playing with time in this piece and found true value in the element of surprise that a story can convey when the elements of an event are placed in order of best impact instead of chronologically.
This course, as noted in the course descriptions page, was centered around creating written work on behalf of non-profit organizations. This particular assignment asked me to consider my own literacy communities that I feel I am a part of. The professors wanted students to have a grounded understanding of their own literacy backgrounds and motivations before they moved forward to help others articulate their values and goals. I have been inspired by courses centered around the criminal justice system and used that as the starting platform to detail the literacy community I feels closest to.
